Abstract The purpose of the present study was to examine whether differences in ambivalence between meat eaters affect their attitude. Research on ambivalence has revealed that attitudes characterized by internal psychological conflict are distinct from univalent or neutral attitudes. In social psychology, an attitude is an evaluation of an attitude object, ranging from extremely negative to extremely positive. Interestingly, though, these models overwhelmingly assume that this relationship is independent of valence.
